Summary

Overview: Every store gets a free address like yourstore.prosperna.com. You can change it to match your brand, or connect a domain you own (like www.yourstore.com) so customers find you at your own web address. Once your domain is working, your .prosperna.com address sends visitors on to it, so your store has one main address.

Prerequisites:

  • To connect your own domain: a domain you've bought from a domain registrar, and a login to that registrar's DNS settings.
  • A paid plan or an active free trial.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Option 1: Change your free Prosperna subdomain

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Settings → Store, then scroll to Manage Your Domain.
  2. Select Your Store's Subdomain.
  3. Type the name you want before .prosperna.com. Use lowercase letters, numbers and single dashes between them (for example kape-tayo). A name can't start or end with a dash.
    • (Optional) Tick Show store domain suggestions to see name ideas.
  4. Click Save.

Option 2: Connect your own domain

Step 1: Save your domain in Prosperna

  1. In Settings → Store → Manage Your Domain, select Connect Your Domain.
  2. Choose https:// (recommended) or http:// from the drop-down.
  3. Type your domain, for example www.example.com.
  4. Click Save.
  5. In the confirmation window, check the spelling of your domain, then click Generate SSL. Prosperna creates a free SSL certificate so your store loads securely.

Step 2: Add the CNAME records at your domain registrar

The Domain SSL Generation and Instructions window shows two records, CNAME RECORD 1 and CNAME RECORD 2. Each has a Host Name / Name and a Content / Value / Data.

  1. Log in to your domain registrar's dashboard.
  2. Open the DNS settings (sometimes called DNS management).
  3. Add both records as CNAME records, copying each name and value exactly.
  4. Save the changes.

Important: use CNAME records only for these entries. Don't add A or AAAA records.

Step 3: Ask Prosperna to activate your domain

  1. In the Final Step for Domain and SSL Verification window, click Ok.
  2. Email support@prosperna.com to ask us to verify and activate your custom domain and SSL certificate.

Step 4: Your Prosperna address starts forwarding

You don't have to do anything for this step. Prosperna checks your domain for you, and once it loads securely and shows your store, your .prosperna.com address starts sending visitors on to the same page on your domain. Your domain then appears in the browser's address bar.

  • While your domain isn't working yet (the DNS records haven't taken effect, or the SSL certificate isn't ready), your .prosperna.com address keeps opening your store as usual. Nothing breaks while you set things up.
  • Prosperna rechecks about once a minute until your domain works, so the forwarding starts within a few minutes of it going live. You don't need to click anything.
  • Your domain is only used once it loads over https. A plain http:// address is never used, so customers are never moved off a secure connection.

Option 3: Claim a free .store domain with an annual plan

Annual plan subscribers can get a .store domain free for 1 year.

  1. In Settings → Store → Manage Your Domain, look for the banner Claim your free ".store" domain for 1 year here!
  2. Click the button on the banner:
    • Claim It Now (you're on an annual paid plan): opens the domain claim page in a new tab. Follow the steps there to get your .store domain.
    • Subscribe Now! (you're not on an annual plan yet): opens Billing → My Plan with Annually and 1 Year Free ".store" domain already chosen. Check that it's selected, then subscribe. See How to Choose a Prosperna Plan.
  3. Once you have your .store domain, connect it with Option 2.

The banner disappears once your store has claimed its free .store domain.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • Subdomain: your store opens at your new name.prosperna.com address.
  • Your own domain: after support confirms activation, your store opens at your domain with a padlock (https) in the browser's address bar.
  • Forwarding: open your .prosperna.com address. Once your domain is working, you land on the same page on your domain, and your domain is what the address bar shows.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • "Invalid Domain. Uppercase letters and special characters are not allowed.": use only lowercase letters, numbers and single dashes, with no dash at the start or end.
  • "Enter a valid hostname like www.example.com": type the domain without spaces, and don't include https:// in the text box (pick it from the drop-down instead).
  • "Domains with prosperna.com or prosperna.ph are not allowed.": enter a domain you own. To change your Prosperna address, use Your Store's Subdomain instead.
  • An upgrade window opens when you select Connect Your Domain: connecting your own domain needs a paid plan.
  • Your domain doesn't load yet: DNS changes can take time to take effect. Check that both CNAME records match exactly, and that you haven't added A or AAAA records for the same name. Your .prosperna.com address keeps working in the meantime.
  • My .prosperna.com address still opens the store instead of forwarding: your domain isn't loading securely yet. Open your domain in a browser: if it doesn't show your store with a padlock, finish the DNS and SSL steps first. Forwarding starts on its own a few minutes later.
  • I switched back to my .prosperna.com address but my browser still goes to my domain: browsers remember the forwarding for up to an hour. Wait an hour, or try again in a private browser window.

Limitations & considerations

  • You can view the CNAME records again any time under Store Settings → Manage Your Domain → Connect Your Domain.
  • Replacing a connected domain generates a new SSL certificate and deactivates the old one.
  • Store links that Prosperna builds for you always use your .prosperna.com address: the Preview Online Store icon, the share and Copy Link buttons in Products and Blogs, your QR Code Menu codes, and the links inside order, review and abandoned cart emails. They keep working before your domain is live, and once it is, they forward customers to your domain.
  • Your domain must be an ordinary public web address on https. An address with a port number, an IP address, or a name that only exists on a private network is never used for forwarding.
  • Search engines are told your .prosperna.com address is the main one until your domain is live, and your own domain from then on.
  • The free .store domain is for 1 year, and each store can claim it once. On an annual plan, you choose either the free .store domain or 1 month free.
