Summary

Overview: Inventory History is a log of stock changes. Each row shows the product, variant and store location, the stock before the change, how much was added or taken away, and the new stock. Use it to check when stock changed, for example after an order or a restock.

Prerequisites:

  • A store on the Launch, Grow, Scale or free trial plan.
  • Store owner access, or a team member with Products access.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open Inventory History

  1. In the sidebar, click Products, then Inventory.
  2. Next to the search box, click the history icon (tooltip View Inventory History). The icon is hidden while you have products ticked. Untick them first.
  3. The Inventory History page opens. Hover over the help icon next to the title to see Track historical stock quantity changes of your product inventory.

Step 2: Read the table

The newest changes are at the top. The columns are:

Column What it shows
Product Name The product that changed
Variant Name The variant, or N/A for a product without variants
Location The store location whose stock changed
Previous Stock Qty The stock before the change
Added and Decreased Stock Qty The change: increases in green with a plus sign (for example +5), decreases in red (for example -2)
New Stock Qty The stock after the change
Last Modified The date and time of the change

Step 3: Know what gets recorded

A row is added when:

  • You click Update in a product's Multilocation Inventory section.
  • You save Bulk Update Quantity for products without variants. A product stocked at several locations gets one row per location.
  • An order takes stock (a decrease), including orders for variants.
  • Stock is returned because you marked a Manual Payments or Pay by Invoice order Declined Payment (an increase).
  • You import products from a CSV file and the file adds stock. See How to Import Products in Bulk.

These changes are not recorded:

  • Variant stock you set with Add Qty. on the product page, or for variants in Bulk Update Quantity.
  • Products marked Always in Stock, because their stock doesn't change.

Step 4: Search and filter

  1. Type in the Search box to find rows by product name or variant name.
  2. Use the location list (Select Location) to show All Locations or one active store location.
  3. At the bottom of the table, choose how many rows to show per page (10, 25, 50 or 100) and move between pages.
  4. Click a column heading to sort. Sorting only reorders the rows on the page you're viewing.

To go back, click the back arrow next to Inventory History.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • After you change a product's stock with Update, a new row appears at the top with the right Previous Stock Qty, change and New Stock Qty.
  • Choosing one location in the location list shows only that location's rows.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • The page shows "No Inventory History Yet" (Stock quantity changes will show up here once they happen.): no recorded stock changes yet.
  • I can't find the history icon: untick all products on the Inventory page. The icon is hidden while products are selected.
  • A change I made isn't listed: it was a variant change made with Add Qty. or in Bulk Update Quantity. These aren't recorded (Step 3).
  • No results after searching: the search only matches product and variant names. Clear the search or choose All Locations.

Limitations & considerations

  • There is no export or download for Inventory History.
  • There is no date filter. Rows are listed newest first.
  • The log doesn't show who made a change or which order took the stock.
  • Rows keep the product, variant and location names from the time of the change.
